Vehicle Description
My beautiful BMW E34 540i Touring from 1994 has to go. I bought it in 2015 and have enjoyed driving it ever since. The 540i has been in a garage for the past 3 years because I started driving a more modern car due to ISOFIX. Unfortunately I just don't have the time to make the 540i 100% again. During the time it was standing still, I went by every 3 months to start the engine: which always went without any problems. It is driveable, but has not had an MOT for a while (10-2022). It is a beautifully designed E34 with some special parts.
The car is in storage in Medemblik, the Netherlands. Export possible. I speak Dutch and English.
Please read the advertisement carefully and view the photos. I try to be as honest as possible, so that you know what you are looking at if that happens. Questions? Ask them!
Important points:
- 303.204km (bought with 215.000km)
- 4 liter V8 M60B40 286hp
- MOT expired
- LPG G3
- 5-speed automatic transmission with sport mode
- Factory lowered sports suspension with automatic levelling at the rear
- Original 16" BMW wheels with old winter tyres
- Dual zone climate control
- Electrically adjustable steering column (rare)
- Electrically adjustable and heated M5 sports interior
- Black headliner (rare)
- Double sliding roof
- Extensive HiFi from factory
- BMW CD43 CD player with Dension Bluetooth
- Siemens car phone (defect), not on every picture
- Factory removable Westfalia towbar with 13-pin plug
- Always refueled with BP Ultimate 98 or Aral 102 (in addition to LPG of course)
- Consumption tracked on Spritmonitor.de since 2015 (Vehicle 720669)
Over the past few years I've pumped a huge amount of money and time into the 540i, with a stack of invoices worth around €14.000 to prove it. Below are some 'highlights':
- 11-2015 Major maintenance with various rubbers and gaskets
- 12-2015 Vogels VGI LPG G3 system
- 2-2016 Automatic and differential service at ZF the Netherlands
- 7-2016 Major maintenance
- 7-2017 Major maintenance
- 9-2018 Air conditioning service incl. leak solving
- 1-2019 New original windshield and moldings
- 1-2019 Removed rust around windshield and had new steel instorten
- 1-2019 Maintenance
- 7-2019 New pressure spheres for suspension + high pressure pipes
- 1-2020 New original BMW middle and end silencer (new old stock)
- 9-2020 Engine oil and engine mounts
- 1-2020 Thermostat, coolant, support arms, belts
- 3-2020 Gearbox oil cooler, gearbox oil, hardy disc, crankshaft seal transmission side, automatic gearbox installed with 200.000km
I have always used the 540i as a daily (85.000km). This is easy to do on LPG, comparable in cost to a big diesel, but with a wonderful V8. I was also able to make several beautiful trips, as you can see in the photos. No expense spared. But there is always something to be done about a 30 year old car. I mainly focused on the technical part and therefore did not get around to the cosmetic part. Here are the negatives:
- Currently stuttering on LPG, I noticed while driving it to my new garage
- Battery is dead
- Dent in the driver's door, crack in the rear bumper, rust spots all around (especially the bottom of the doors)
- Some rust on the bottom (sills replace quoted 1500 euro in the Netherlands)
- Paint peeling from the roof rails
- OBC on-board computer does not work, therefore the remote control does not work either
- Driver's seat knee support adjustment defective
- The window in the tailgate sometimes comes out of its lock
- Cracked driver's side high beam
- Kidney grille is loose (new kidneys and grille included)
- Headliner is starting to loosen up a bit
- Creaks from strut bearings
- Headlight washers and rear windshield washer defect
So don't expect a new car.
In short: a car that has undergone a lot of work, been driven a lot and I had a lot of fun with it. I really love this car, but I think it's time to pass it over to a new enthousiast. Now with a little kid I just have less time for the 540i. Do you think you are a good owner for this car? Please contact me. Price is negotiable, but within reason.
