Story
The Ford GT is an iconic US supercar designed by Ford as a tribute to the legendary Ford GT40 of the 1960s, which won four consecutive Le Mans 24 Hours (1966 to 1969).
The Ford GT was developed to celebrate Ford's centenary in 2003.
The car's design is a direct homage to the original GT40, with modern elements to make it competitive in the contemporary supercar market.
The concept was first unveiled in 2002 as the Ford GT40 Concept.
However, the final name was changed to Ford GT, as the rights to ‘GT40’ were owned by a third party.
The Ford GT was built around a lightweight aluminium chassis, also with an aluminium body.
It is powered by a 5.4-litre supercharged V8 engine, producing around 550bhp and 678Nm of torque.
This engine delivers a top speed of around 330 km/h.
It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. It was one of the fastest cars of its era.
A six-speed manual gearbox, with the emphasis on a pure driving experience.
Production of the Ford GT began in 2004 and ended in 2006. Around 4,038 examples were produced over this period, making it a relatively rare car.
Each model was assembled at Ford's factory in the United States.
