Vehicle Description
Harley-Davidson WLA is a military motorcycle manufactured to meet US Army specifications during and around World War II. It was derived from the civilian WL model and belongs to the 45 solo type, named for its 45-cubic-inch (740 cm³) engine displacement and single-rider design. Production spanned from 1940 to 1952, with assembly occurring in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
It falls under the class of military motorcycles.
Key Features:
The model number breaks down as follows:
W: the W family of motorcycles. Harley-Davidson gives a letter designation for each model family. The W series at the time was the newest incarnation of the 45-cubic-inch (740 cm3) flathead motor, and was developed from the earlier R family 1932–1936.
L: "high compression", in the usual HD scheme. The "low compression" W model was only briefly available.
A : Army. The company would also produce a model to the slightly different specifications of the Canadian Army, which would be named the WLC. The WLCs differed from WLAs chiefly in the use of some heavier components, usually Big Twin parts, as well as Canadian blackout lighting.
This superior Harley-Davidson WLA was completely restored about 10 years ago by the H-D restoration specialist. For instance engine hard parts like pistons were so called “old new” parts from original engine manufacturer.
After restoration its driven about 1500 km which means it’s engine has been well run in.
This exact WLA model stands out due to its modification for two seats, unlike the majority of WLA motorcycles which were single-seaters. It’s much more fun and pleasant to ride with someone or at least have an option to do so if you wish. Moreover, it has received official approval from the national vehicle registration office, so it can be registered as two seater in any EU country or outside EU. However, if someone prefers to keep it as single seater it can be easily done.
WLA is restored as much as possible as originally built about 80 years ago. Act of recognition of originality % is not conducted yet by the official old-timer experts but could be organised if new owner wishes it and is ready to cover the direct cost.
Reason for selling this highly unique WLA is what past years I haven’t had any time to ride with it due to my other hobbies and family commitments.
H-D WLA is at the moment in Estonia but I could assist to organise its transport to any other country in Europe for a reasonable rates.
